VIOLIN WITH ANA
MY BACKGROUND
A Dedicated Violin Teacher
Ana has taught violin for over ten years. She studied privately with Moshe Hammer and Karoly Sziladi, and has participated in various music festivals across Canada, taking part in masterclasses with James Ehnes, Mark Fewer, and Annalee Patipatanakoon. She has her ARCT diploma in Violin Performance (RCM, Honours with Distinction), and has performed with small chamber groups and local orchestras in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto.
When a shoulder injury put a stop to her musical career, Ana kept her passion for music alive by focusing on teaching. Her love for helping violinists develop has blossomed and deepened over the years, and Ana has built solid relationships with her students, helping them progress from absolute beginner to grade 9 RCM level.
Ana will introduce the violin to you in a way that makes sense and feels intuitive. She’s warm and encouraging, but will also set a lesson and practise structure that will push you just enough to improve. She’ll show you proper posture/alignment, good bow hold and left hand frame, and will introduce reading music at a pace that feels just right. As you progress, Ana will teach you easier ways to shift, do double stops and chords, as well as vibrato and various bow strokes.
The violin is one of the most difficult instruments to learn, but Ana is here to take you through the process in a way that’s comprehensible, fun, and challenging. Ana is deeply passionate about guiding her students well, and watching them grow. She can’t wait to meet you and get started!
